A Natural, Non-Invasive Way to Relieve Pain, Speed Healing

Whether you’re suffering with a painful, debilitating injury from an accident, occasional recreational activity, regular workouts, or serious competition, you want safe and effective relief – and you want it as quickly and easily as possible. At the BRAM Center for Regenerative Medicine we can make that happen for you with a relatively new treatment called Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP). PRP is a simple, non-invasive procedure that provides superior relief for acute or chronic pain by promoting the natural healing potential of the body with platelets from your own blood.

Dr. Bram and his associates use PRP to treat tendon, ligament and joint injuries that have failed more traditional therapies, including rotator cuff injuries, tennis elbow, Achilles’ tendon, plantar fasciitis, knee and hip arthritis, meniscus tears,, knee pain or ligament sprains.

Chosen by top athletes

Many world-class sports superstars, including Stephen Curry, Kobe Bryant, David Ortiz, Rafael Nadal and Tiger Woods have turned to their own PRP doctors for quick pain relief without the risks of surgery and extended recovery. If it can get them back to high-level competition quickly, imagine how beneficial it can be for you.

Here’s how PRP works

Blood is made up of red and white blood cells, plasma, and platelets. Following an injury, platelets in our bodies are activated and release healing proteins called growth factors, which help to speed up wound and tissue healing. Platelet Rich Plasma is a particularly good source of these growth factors because Dr. Bram and his team are able to get the PRP from your blood quickly, easily and safely right in our state-of-the-art facility.

  • The one-hour inpatient process begins by taking a small sample of your blood and placing it into the Platelet Concentrate System, which separates the blood into its primary components – platelets, white blood cells, plasma, and red blood cells.

These concentrated platelets are then injected into and around the injured tissues using ultrasound guidance to confirm that the needle is positioned properly.

  • The concentrated platelets trigger a natural immune response as specialized white blood cells (macrophages) rush in to remove damaged cells and prepare the tissue for healing.
  • Stem cells and other cells multiply, repair and rebuild the damaged tissue – an accelerated healing response that reduces pain, promotes increased strength and improves joint function.
  • While many patients require just one treatment, you may need additional sessions before returning to a normal active lifestyle doing the things you love.

PRP preparation and follow-up

  • Restricted use of non-steroid anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) one week prior to and two weeks after the course of treatment.
  • If you experience any localized discomfort, you may take Extra-Strength Tylenol to relieve the pain. You can also apply ice and heat as needed.
  • We might recommend that you begin a rehab program with physical therapy one week after the procedure, but aggressive physical activity will be discouraged until your doctor approves.

At the present time, Platelet Rich Plasma treatments are not covered by medical insurance.
